On Sunday, we heard how Paul set sail to Rome as a prisoner of the empire. Along the way, their boat was shipwrecked on the island of Malta. This was not the first time that Paul experienced hardship in life and for the sake of the Gospel. Nevertheless, his faith remained strong and he took every opportunity to share the good news of Jesus in each circumstance along the way.
On Sunday, we celebrated a baptism. In the flood prayer of the liturgy, we join Luther in praying that God would “look graciously upon the newly baptized and bless them with true faith…and that they would be preserved dry and secure in the holy ark of the Christian Church.” Even though life’s storms can come upon us quickly and unexpected, we give thanks to God, that our faith is a strong anchor and the ark of the Christian church has weathered many storms. We have been preserved in true faith and will arrive safely in that eternal harbor! Thanks be to God!
Sail on in faith this week!
