Dear Friends in Christ –

A week ago, I read a lengthy list of saints who have died in the past year. On Sunday, we welcomed another saint into the family of God through the sacrament of Holy Baptism. Yesterday, in my sermon, I recounted God’s faithfulness and forgiveness to all who are called by God’s family name. When I got home, my parents called to tell me that one of my high school mentors had died unexpectedly. Too often, we rush headlong into the next week, unphased by the tremendous privilege it is that God has given us another day, another breath, and the pleasure to live in his grace. And yet, we are all on our way to Jesus. “In life, in death, O Lord, abide in me!”
I pray that our mission and ministry together always remind you of God’s promise for you: You are called by name into this family. You are sent to bear witness to God’s love in all you say and do. And when at last, our eyelids close in death, your name will not be forgotten. You will share the hope of eternity with Him who has known your name from the beginning.

Blessings on your week!
Pastor Culynn
