This morning I woke up earlier than expected, so I wandered upstairs and started the coffee. Then I watched morning rise and the snow fall out our picture window. It’s the kind of quiet reflection that I needed. Before the kids demanded my attention, before the driveway needed shoveling, I took a moment for quiet contemplation and prayer.
It’s the sort of thing that Advent calls for but often is neglected. With all the hype of commercial Christmas, the parties, the decorations, etc., it is easy for us to run ourselves ragged in this holy season. December is a joy-filled time, but sometimes we are forced to grapple with the difficult and significant losses we’ve experienced in the past year. Quiet time grants us access to the peace which God provides, which surpasses human understanding (Philippians 4:7).
Peace to you all, I pray.
