Dear Friends in Christ –

When I was a young kid, I used to play church in our family basement. My Mom brought the teddy bears from my first “congregation” for my ordination. As we sang the liturgy at 8am on Sunday morning, I remembered what it was like to sing all the parts and worship in our basement. I dreamed of teaching the Scriptures and attending meetings. I looked forward to leading worship and preaching. As I grew up, I had opportunities to sing in worship, serve as lector, and even served on a call committee and in youth ministry.
In June, I will have served as Lead Pastor at Holy Cross for seven years. While I anticipated lots of things for ministry, what I could not have imagined is the deep and meaningful relationships that would be the byproduct of ministry among you. Two weeks ago, I presided at a funeral from a long-time member who I accompanied through sickness and hospice. Over the weekend, I performed a second wedding for one of our families. On Sunday, Oliver sat with two different families at the two services. Thank you for calling me to preach the Word, baptize your children, announce the forgiveness of sin, marry and bury your family and friends as well as preside at Holy Communion.

The privilege to serve as your pastor is all mine.
