Last week, we talked about Jesus’ call to an abundant life (John 10:10). In yesterday’s reading, God confirmed his promise to Abraham through a rite for a solemn oath and promise (Genesis 15:1-18). Yesterday was the first time that my family was in church together since March 8. Thanks to Oliver’s fifth birthday, Meg had some extra help in the chairs from my parents and grandma. We shared the Sacrament together, a foretaste of the feast to come; my children received a blessing. While there are a thousand things calling for our attention, even if you’re feeling anxious and uncertain, be sure to find ways to encounter the promises of God’s Word with families and other Christians. Yes, we must take the pandemic and mitigation practices seriously, but we cannot allow them to rob us of the peace that surpasses human understanding which is available only in Christ Jesus (Philippians 4:7). Abundant life is all around! Be on the lookout!
