Dear Friends in Christ –

The sanctuary is dark and quiet this morning, but yesterday it was the epicenter of God’s encounter with his people in powerful ways. We celebrated Lenten themes as we near the end of our summer series on the Gospel of Mark. It was a wonderful day as God adopted Margo into the family of God through the death and resurrection of Christ Jesus in the Sacrament of Holy Baptism. As always, you were welcoming to our many family and friends who gathered here yesterday. But also, many of you expressed your joy for us on this special day.

It has always been my privilege to proclaim the promises of Jesus among you. It is a wonderful calling to serve this community of faith. But as the day was drawing to its close, I recounted the powerful and infinite ways in which many of you served my family and me with the love of Jesus yesterday and that means more than you will know! I pray that Holy Cross continues to be the epicenter of God’s encounter with all of us:

O Lord God, May every person who walks through our doors receive our welcome and hospitality as an invitation from your Holy Spirit. Let them continue to hear the message of hope and new life through the preaching and singing of our assembly, empower them to live in the extravagance of your mercy as they experience your presence and love among us! Let it be so. Amen.
