One of the things that I absolutely love about our summer schedule is that we all get to be together at the same time to worship the Lord! Yesterday, the Spirit gathered many of us together for the services of God’s house; We ran out of bulletins, and we had just enough wine and grape juice to serve for Holy Communion! Many times we get all excited about the numbers and miss the point of why we come together in the first place. While we might take credit for our arrival on Sunday mornings, it is really God’s Spirit who calls and gathers us. It is the Spirit who creates, renews, and sustains us in the life of faith. The church is the net of God’s Spirit dragging us into a harvest for the Kingdom. We are gathered around God’s Word, the Lord’s Supper, and we join our voices in confessing and singing the faith. We join our hearts together in prayer. All the while, growing in faith, love, and obedience to Christ’s call to follow him.
Last week, the Augustana District posted this prayer on their Facebook page: “Join me in praying for God to stir up among us a renewed hunger for His Word, a deep longing for the Lord’s Supper, a higher priority on weekly worship, and a greater zeal for Christ and his church.” It is an important reminder for us. It may even convict us and draw us closer to Christ this summer. Let the people of God say, “Amen!”
See you at our Summer Services soon!
