Dear Friends in Christ –

Yesterday we celebrated the Baptism of Our Lord. As we heard of Christ’s baptism, we were reminded of our own. Unfortunately, we underestimate baptism’s power. For many of us, the water of Holy Baptism has long dried up. But the promises given therein have no expiration date. The promise given to Jesus is the same promise God has given to you: You are the beloved of God.
Having been joined to Christ, we go with him into the trials and temptations of this world. We will not be able to keep the devil at bay and the influence of sin clings ever so close. And yet, the promises of God remains. Although the water has evaporated, the Spirit of God continues to pound the wonderful promises of faith and new life into your ear, heart, and life. And should you forget them or need to be reminded, you’re invited back to Holy Cross where you will hear those promises again and again in worship, in study, in private conversation and pastoral care.

Baptismal blessings upon you today and everyday!
