Dear Friends in Christ-

This weekend I attended a retreat of Christian renewal in South Dakota, where I served as one of the pastors or spiritual directors. It was a wonderful weekend. Even though I was serving on the leadership team, I gained so much. One of the great things about it, is that during a few of the services of Holy Communion, I got to sit and listen; to participate in the liturgy, but to simply hear a sermon preached for me and receive Holy Communion. I was reminded just how important that is.
While I was away, Pastor Tony was here. We are so grateful for his leadership when I am away. He preached on the Gerasene demoniac. Because of his encounter with Jesus Christ, he was set free from all that held him in bondage. Even though Jesus brought freedom for the man, the neighbors weren’t sure they wanted Jesus hanging around. Faith in Christ can be scary at first. When he is in control, we forfeit so many of our plans. At first, it may make us uneasy or uncomfortable. Yet, the new life Jesus brings is of great value and surprising worth. Nothing can compare to it, especially it’s eternal measure!

Blessings on your week!

Pastor Culynn
