Dear Friends in Christ –

In the picture sent with the weekly email update, you see a set of new candlesticks with oil candles. They are a memorial gift from The Rev. Robert and Becky Mortvedt in memory of Elmer Petersen. Elmer was Becky’s uncle and he was married to Bob’s sister. Elmer was a sculptor by trade; it makes the gift of these brass candlesticks especially appropriate. Two candles on the altar remind us of the two natures of Christ; he is both human and divine. He is everywhere present because he is seated on the throne at the right hand of God. But also, he is enfleshed among us when the Body of Christ gathers together, the Living Word is preached into the ears of hearers, and when the Sacrament is broken and poured out for all to receive. May these lights remind us of the Light of the World, the light no darkness can overcome.
Looking to the Light,
Pastor Culynn
