Dear Friends in Christ –

I am always encouraged when I hear the story of John’s nativity and Zachariah’s song. It is hard to believe that it has been 7 1/2 years since my installation as the pastor of Holy Cross Lutheran Church. On that wonderful Sunday in June 2013, we celebrated the Feast Day of Saint John the Baptist; a wonderful feast to celebrate in conjunction with the installation of a pastor. At the installation and during the service yesterday, we heard Zechariah’s Song. The song gives a nice job description for pastors who follow in John the Baptist’s footsteps. The work of the pastor is to preach and teach the ancient story of the Scriptures. Like John the Baptist and his long, bony finger, I am called to stand and point to Christ and to declare the knowledge of salvation, the forgiveness of sins, and the way of peace. Please join me in praying for all ministers of the Word.
Thank you for the opportunity to serve as the herald of good tidings among you. Thank you for the ways you have cared for my family and me. Thank you for your patience and flexibility as we navigate ministry in a pandemic. Thank you for your faithful prayers during these years together; they strengthen and bless me in service for the Gospel among you.

Blessings to you this Advent Season,
Pastor Culynn
