Jean Wagner prepared our Vacation Bible School experience for the children and along with help from several volunteers, the students were immersed in the story through song, skits, crafts, games, and even food that matched the themes for the day. These preparations helped her to preach an excellent sermon that compared the Old Testament Joseph to God’s Son, Jesus; calling us to the saving grace of God. Amazing!
As she and I reflected on the week, one of the things that became so evident is that Joseph wasn’t preachy (at least not until the end), but rather, he served in very secular settings and did his work well. His diligence made others take notice and only after being asked did he testify to God’s work and love in his life. Yet, Joseph did save the entire known world, not by dying, but making sure that basic needs were met for all who came to the storehouses of Egypt. That’s a good reminder for us too. When we serve in our everyday callings as employees, parents, children, community members, we are given an opportunity to show God’s love. We don’t have to be preachy about it…but others will take notice of God’s love and care on display in each one of you. What an opportunity!
