You’ve probably heard it said of someone, “They were a saint.” Whether it was one of the great church mothers or church fathers, or someone who endured much in their life, we tend to revere the great ones among us. Today is the Festival of All Saints, which we will celebrate next Sunday.
But today, you can revel in the truth that Christ’s death and resurrection and his forgiveness has transformed your lowly identity as an average Joe and an everyday sinner, into one of the chosen ones, set apart for the purposes of his kingdom. Yes, today we celebrate the saints; those who have entered the Church Triumphant and now rest from their labors. But also, today is your day: A day to look upon Christ and give thanks for your new identity in him.
