SPOILER ALERT: This article is based on the movie, Unforgivable with Sandra Bullock. You may want to stop reading this now and go watch the movie first. I will be giving away the ending.
Ruth (Sandra Bullock) is a woman who went to prison for a violent crime. She silently allowed herself to be arrested. She served her sentence silently. As she was beaten and ridiculed, she remained silent. When she was released, she began to search for her little sister. This sister was about five years old when Ruth went to prison. Her love for her sister becomes more and more evident as the movie progresses, until the very end when the truth is revealed. Ruth went to prison out of love for her sister. This little girl is the guilty one. Ruth loves this little girl so much that she was willing to take the punishment for her. Not only the prison sentence, but the beatings and ridiculing that came with it; and she took it all in silence. Never once did she defend herself. Ruth’s main objective after being released from prison was to find and continue to protect her sister.
This was a powerful love story.
I couldn’t help but see Jesus in Ruth. Out of his limitless love for you and me he silently took the punishment, the beating and the ridiculing that was rightfully ours. He took it silently and willingly. Never once did he defend himself. And his main objective is to find the lost and continue to protect us.
The movie brought to life the love that Jesus has for us. That is the ultimate, powerful love story.
You are loved,
