Over the weekend, Meg and I went to Saint Paul to celebrate a friend’s wedding. She and I read the Scriptures and sang in a pick-up choir of college friends. Many of us sang together in college. Not only was it a tremendous honor to sing for our friend’s wedding, but to join together after such a long time, and sing a beautiful arrangement of “Be Thou My Vision“…let’s just say, for once I wasn’t the only one with tears in my eyes!
“Be thou and thou only the first in my heart;
O Sovereign of heaven, my treasure thou art.
Great heart of my own heart, whatever befall,
still be thou my vision, O Ruler of all.”
That’s the beauty of our Christian confession: We belong to one another as members of Christ’s living body. But also, we are united with Christ, the Living One, who is seated at the right hand of God, who watches over us all, who keeps us in his grace and peace, and promises life now and forevermore! What strength and comfort this gives to us as we share together in the God-fashioned Life.
Living in Christ with you,
