On Sunday, we join with the Lutheran Church throughout the world as we celebrate the recovery of the Gospel. Thanks to the witness of Martin Luther, corrupt church authority and unbiblical tradition were squelched so that the truth of Biblical faith could triumph in the church. Luther’s courage and persistence, along with many fellow students and colleagues and even the support of his prince, allowed the Reformation to take hold in Germany and spread throughout the world. We are his descendants, and we give thanks for the Biblical message he laid bare for us:
“But now the righteousness of God has been manifested apart from the law, although the Law and the Prophets bear witness to it–the righteousness of God through faith alone in Jesus Christ for all who believe. For there is no distinction: For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, and are justified by his grace as a gift, through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus, whom God put forward as a sacrifice by his blood, to be received by faith” (Romans 3:21-25).
Don’t forget to wear red on Sunday. It is the color of the festival day!
