Dear Friends in Christ –

On Sunday, we sang a familiar Advent hymn, “Rejoice, Rejoice Believers.” It is a song of hope and expectation about the coming of Christ. We typically sing it in December, when the Christmas tree is given a prominent place. But, as we sang the hymn, it was the cross that was given central place. The final verse resonated differently but deeply as we draw ever closer to Holy Week:

Our hope and expectation, O Jesus, now appear;
Arise, O Sun so longed for, O’er this benighted sphere.
With hearts and hands uplifted, we plead, O Lord, to see
the day of earth’s redemption that sets your people free.

As Lent draws to its climax, may we look to Christ as our heart’s desire and the hope of our redemption!

Singing with you,
Pastor Culynn
