The entire congregation fell eerily quiet when John Wisecarver (our resident comedian who usually makes people laugh) made his announcement on Sunday morning at the 8:00 service . I think people were possibly feeling the Law! He pointed out that there had been no one to greet them as they entered the church. No ushers handing out hymnals or bulletins. The candles on the altar were not lit. And worst of all, communion could possibly be self-serve! This is what our worship services will look like if people don’t volunteer for worship duties.
I’m sure you have chores in your homes. And I’m sure you don’t always particularly want to do them. But nevertheless, the chores need doing. Our church home is no different. Going from one service to two means we need a total of at least 20 people each Sunday to do the “chores”. This isn’t counting the behind-the-scenes work like church council, etc. Or our Pastor, Faith Formation leaders, refreshments, and music people. This is only what’s needed to run the worship service.
Not everyone is suited for every chore. But there is something for everyone. If you don’t know how to do something, I am more than happy to show you, and walk alongside you, until you feel comfortable. And even if you don’t get it perfect, I ASSURE you, you won’t be fired!
If you haven’t signed-up for a chore lately, please take a minute to do so. The sign-up sheet is on the table in the narthex.
You are Blessed to be a Blessing!
