Dear Friends in Christ –

On Fall Ministry Kick-Off, the psalmist encouraged us “To tell the coming generation the glorious deeds of the Lord.” On Sunday, the ancient prayer of the SHEMA charges us “To teach [the commandments] to our children, and talk of them when you sit and walk, lie down, and rise.” In other places, Scripture admonishes and commands us to be diligent in our commission: “Go, make disciples, baptize, teach, and obey!”

Last week, during the closing worship of the LCMC Gathering, I was sitting in front of a dear colleague and fellow pastor. This is someone I’ve long respected and pay close attention to when they speak. As we stood for the Creed, his confession was so clear and strong. It came right over my shoulder and poured into my ear! Words I’ve heard and confessed for years(!), suddenly struck my heart in a profound way.

Week in and week out, next to dear friends and complete strangers, male and female, old and young, we encourage one another in the truths and promises of our faith. Your voice is necessary in the chorus of our praise and witness. Never underestimate the strength that your voice gives as you tell others of the good news of Jesus!

Blessings on your week,
Pastor Culynn
