Do you have to move furniture or adjust things in your home for this season? I haven’t taken the leaf out of the table (because it’s nice for holiday baking day), but we’ll see how many times the wooden nativity gets knocked over; it could still happen. The same is true at church.
During COVID and for video purposes, we moved the altar over and the pulpit into the chancel. We left it, purely for one practical reason: It gives your pastor another four inches. That has meant the baptismal font has been displaced. Currently, it is sitting at the entrance to the sanctuary. How fitting. Holy Baptism is our entrance into the church! Through this Sacrament, you are clothed in Christ! His forgiveness, his righteousness, his holiness covers your sin and shame. God wraps you in his love. You receive the garments of salvation! As we prepare to return to the beginning of the Christ Event, may you also return to your beginning: The water and the Word of Holy Baptism.
