Dear Friends in Christ,

The season of Lent begins today with The Solemn Observance of Ash Wednesday. The season of Lent is a special time (40 days, excluding Sundays–which are always considered celebrations of the resurrection). A season set aside to focus our hearts and minds on the cross of Jesus Christ. The Lenten hymn, “Beneath the Cross of Jesus”, so eloquently articulates the meditations of our hearts during this holy season: “Two wonders I confess, the wonder of his glorious love and my unworthiness.”

You don’t have to give up anything. You don’t have to add more to your plate. Lent is simply the spring of our souls. Therefore, you are encouraged to strip away the excess and focus on the bedrock of the Christian life, the center of the Bible’s narrative, the story of your salvation! This year’s Lenten theme is “Ah, Holy Jesus: Meditations on a Lenten Hymn.” Each Wednesday, we will sing the lovely Holden Evening Prayer liturgy, and contemplate Christ’s cross, a symbol of our rebellion and the sign of God’s unwavering, never-ending, undeserved love.

Blessed Lententide to you!
Pastor Culynn
