I didn’t have anything after church on Sunday; the first time in quite a while. After a beautiful morning of services and Bible Study, our family went out for brunch. I snuck in a quick post-liturgical nap. Then I cleaned the garage, set out the patio furniture, and mowed the lawn for the first time. We had a Mexican-inspired supper with our neighbors. To top it off, I FaceTimed with my Grandma!
At the end of the day, I thought about this Sabbath. Some of that was labor-intensive, to be sure; a fact my faithful and devout grandparents would have probably frowned upon. Nevertheless, many aspects of the day were filled with delight; a key practice of Jewish Sabbath observance. As we head into summer, there will be lots of time for delight, but it should never come at the expense of our rest and hearing God’s Word. Because, the truth be told: The promises of God in Christ Jesus are the real and true gem of our existence; now and for all eternity!
Blessings on your week!
