“The beginning of the good news about Jesus the Messiah, the Son of God…”
Mark 1:1
It is a “beginning” says Mark.
And the “beginning” has a specific focus. It is “good news”. I suspect most of us can use some good news, something that will make a difference in our daily lives. Well, says Mark, we have it!
And this good news is very specific. It is “good news about Jesus…” Jesus is good news. Jesus comes through his Spirit to engage us “by grace through faith” and announces good news to us. And this good news is filled with promise and hope. Jesus has come to set us free from all that would destroy us. Martin Luther called “them” the “deadly trio”. They are sin, death, and the devil.
And that is only the “beginning”. The good news lives on in each of us as we cling to the promise and the hope God in Jesus gives us. His grace and mercy surround us each day. His love and forgiveness embrace us and we become messengers of the good news to and for each other.
Today is a new day. And it is a day of good news. Jesus Christ died for you and is alive, never to die again. He has bestowed that promise on us. Alive in Christ we will live with him forever. Today is a new “beginning”, a new day. Live in it with joy and hope.
God bless!
